What superheroines would you want to party with? Which ones would you try to avoid? There’s a great article at Comics Alliance about who’s got fun and who’s got none when it comes to the capes-and-spandex crowd. Power Girl and She-Hulk get high marks!

I was googling around and found a great 2007 interview with Jerry Ordway in which he discusses – among other things – the “darkening” of the Mary Marvel character. Being no fan of Peter David myself, I found this bit particularly prophetic:

I had issues with the time that Peter David “borrowed” Mary Marvel for a Supergirl crossover, and immediately wanted to have her sexually molested in his story. Then Keith Giffen wanted her to lose her virginity in Formerly Known as the Justice League! Now it looks like the movement to gritty Mary up are finally getting their way in Countdown.

[...]

I’m no prude, but if you want to “violate” the intent of a character, create a new damn character, will you? Just my opinion.

Ordway will soon be returning to write Justice Society of America, and I expect him to resolve the current scattered state of the Marvel Family in the next year or two.

At right is the cover for the first issue – there’s also an alternative cover by Adam Hughes.

The creative team is obviously in a hurry to get things moving with the series but I found bits of it a little annoying. They just plop down her alter ego – Karen Starr – as head of a new technology firm that’s setting out to save the world from pollution or something.

Amanda Conner’s art holds up really well, though. Hopefully this series will have a long run.

When was the last time you ever saw a cover of Wonder Woman flexing her muscles? It also slyly makes fun of both the effect Wonder Woman has on young girls and the perpetually-delayed Wonder Woman movie. Love it!

Here’s the blurb:

Written by Gail Simone ; Art by Bernard Chang; Cover by Aaron Lopresti

Who wouldn’t want to see their name in lights? Wonder Woman, that’s who, and she’s now hell bent on putting a stop to the Wonder Woman movie. At least she is until she realizes the impact she has on young women and girls, and must decide what’s more important to her – her sanity or her conscience?

Plus, Wonder Womans’ courtship of Nemesis takes a daring turn as the series hits issue #25!

DC Universe | 32pg. | Color | $2.99 US
